110 Degrees

In 1999, I co-founded 110 Degrees, a citywide youth magazine in Tucson, published by the non-profit organization VOICES, Inc. For five years I served as the organization’s Writing Director, focusing chiefly on the after-school magazine program. I mentored young people in writing, research, and interviewing and assembled and edited the magazine with Photo Director Josh Schachter. In honor of our work Josh and I were awarded the 2005 Compass Health Care “Dynamic Duo Award: Making a Difference.” 110 Degrees continues to be published annually as 20 young artists research, report, write and photography stories about their own lives or about important community members and events. After a five-year run as a tabloid insert in Tucson’s largest daily newspaper, the Arizona Daily Star, 110 Degrees is now published by the Tucson Weekly.
