In February 2009, Josh Schachter and I were hired by VOICES, Inc. to work with youth artists in its after-school freelance program. We focused on love stories of Downtown Tucson, since our interviewing and photographing day fell on Valentine’s Day and also because we wanted to celebrate and bring life to downtown. VOICES staff put out the call for community participants and we carried out the project over a period of 6 three-hour sessions, first mentoring the youth in basic interviewing and photography skills and then conducting the interviews and holding photo sessions. I designed the posters with Josh’s assistance and they hung in the windows of the Hotel Congress in the summer and fall of 2009.
