design co*op & city high

In 2008 I joined Design Co*op, a collective of Tucson- based architects, designers, and artists working across disciplines to raise public awareness of the value of affordable and appropriate urban design. Currently Design Co*op is comprised of Design co*op consists of two professional architects, Bill Mackey and Beth Weinstein, and myself.  To date we have collaborated primarily on a number of projects with City High School in downtown Tucson.

Downtown Signs, Spring 2009
We helped students in Amy Rude’s 9th grade humanities classes to design, fabricate, and install a sign concerned with a particular theme and a particular place in downtown Tucson. The aim of the project was to engage students in an exploration of the downtown urban environment and think creatively about how public signage might bring attention to particular locations or phenomena. The students used images and text to develop simple messages that might inspire a new kind of response to the everyday (e.g. surprise, curiosity, humor, or critique).
